Announcement: Basic/Expert Classes and Equipment!

Following on from my Basic/Expert Core Rules project, I've started working on the companion volume: Basic/Expert Classes and Equipment.

v0.1.0 is out, containing the following things:

  • The cleric class.
  • The dwarf class.
  • Basic equipment lists, including weapons and armour.
  • Lots of placeholder section headings.

The document is shared online here.

As before, feedback is encouraged! Feel free to comment directly on the google doc, comment on this post, on G+, or contact me privately.

(This document has subsumed the old Basic/Expert Equipment and Hirelings doc.)

  1. On a tablet, so couldn't comment in the doc itself. First, awesome project. Very much looking forward to the final result. My suggestion is to add the encumbrance info right into the equipment tables for eady access. Just as you've merged in the variable damage, missile ranges, etc. Looking good so far!

    1. Ah that's a good idea, thanks for pointing that out!

  2. I've always had a similar sort of question with regards to B/X; so I'm going to ask, what is the usual way of dealing with name level hit points, like when a cleric has 9d6+1, then 9d6+2 a level later; is it just that they get one new hit point per level, or does '9d6+5' mean that they get a further 5 hit points when reaching that level?

    1. Yeah, it's always slightly ambiguous, isn't it. It means +1 per level, in that case, though. The number listed is the total (cumulative) hit points of the character.

  3. Specifying what a dwarf can do with traps and construction is good. The specifics you have chosen are good and the presentation is efficient. A+.

    1. Thanks! Glad it looks sound. Yeah, my idea is to put all rules relating to each class in one place. (In v0.1.0, I forgot to mention dwarves' increased chance when listening at doors. Will be added in the next release.)
